We feature Chesapeake Light Craft boats, boards, kits and supplies. Chesapeake Light Craft has been building boats since 1991. With over 30,000 boat kits shipped - CLC is one of the best boat building resources in the nation.
Among the many models to choose from, Drift North Paddle Co focuses on these styles:
Mill Creek - only the Mill Creek 13 will fit through our doors
Sea Island Sport - Sit on top kayak
Kaholo Stand-Up Paddleboard
Sassafras - only the Sassafras 12 will fit through our doors
Mill Creek 13
The Mill Creek was designed as a wider, shorter, and more stable alternative to the typical sea kayak. It offers the stability sought by nature photographers, fly fishermen, and birders. The most versatile paddling designs in our lineup, the Mill Creeks are true high-performance boats. That is, if high performance is defined as comfort, good handling, rewarding speed, stability, and classic good looks. Originally drawn as stable and compact complements to our more traditional sea kayaks, the Mill Creeks™ have found fans among paddlers of all skill levels because they offer so much boat in such a light and easy-to-manage package. More stable than most kayaks.
Reminiscent of the 1920's "double paddle" canoes. Combines the stability and comfortable seating of a canoe with the light weight and decked-in security of a kayak.
Perfect for photography, fly fishing, birding, or just relaxed paddling.
The Mill Creek 16.5 cannot fit in our facility at this time.
Working with surfing and paddle board guru Larry Froley of Gray Whale Trading in California, CLC has created two beautiful hollow wooden boards with that rare quality of being fast enough to race but stable enough for first-timers.
With their uncanny speed, the Kaholo 12-6 and Kaholo 14 have found a following among racers. The 14 is better for larger paddlers (or those who might carry along dogs or small kids). The 12-6 is more compact, better for smaller-statured paddlers, and it fits in several increasingly popular racing classes.
Includes premium nonskid deck pads, cut to shape, breather tubes, and custom laminated skegs.
The Sassafras 12 canoe is so light that you can put it on your shoulder and stroll casually down a wooded trail to a hidden lake or stream, fishing rod and tackle box in the other. That was the idea behind the original "trapper" or "pack" canoes. CLC's 28-pound Sassafras 12 carries on the tradition - but with modern building methods.
Though she can be carried, or paddled, by a child, she'll hold a 250-pound load.
She tracks well, turns easily, and is stable enough for fishing.
For maximum efficiency you'll want to paddle the Sassafras 12 with a double (kayak) paddle.
The Sassafras 16 cannot fit in our facility at this time.
Elegant lines result in real performance. The sweeping sheerline complements the nicely balanced ends; there isn't an awkward hump or bump anywhere. The sheer panels are "tumbled home" to reduce windage and improve paddle clearance. Like all Chesapeake Light Craft kayak kits, the decks are smoothly cambered, not cut up into a faceted, homebuilt appearance.
The Sea Island Sport is 15'6" long and features a pleasing shape, attractive from every angle, with a unique contrasting deck made out of Sapele plywood. The reddish Sapele contrasts with the more honey-colored BS 1088 Okoume in the hull. Sharp-eyed observers will note the similarity to CLC’s popular Eric Schade-designed Shearwater line, which have a similar cambered Sapele deck and tumbled-home sides.

Capacity is ample and meant to accommodate a broad range of paddlers. Roomy cockpit will fit almost anyone under 275 pounds.
The boat is easy to get into, and for fishermen, stability is sufficient to drop the paddle and reel in a big striper. In the hot months, you sit in the open air so your legs won’t broil. In cooler weather, the Sea Island’s dry ride will extend your season.
The Wood Ducks are among our easiest-to-build kits. Panels are precision-cut on our computerized equipment, with puzzle-joints and pre-drilled stitching holes for fast and accurate assembly. Sheathed in fiberglass inside and out, the Wood Duck will withstand real-world abuse on gravel or shell beaches, and will bounce over submerged stumps without harm.
Capacity is ample and meant to accommodate a broad range of paddlers.
A flush hatch for the rear compartment is standard in all kits; an airtight oval VCP hatch is an option.
Speed is excellent: you can really cover the miles in a day, while tracking is solid in stiff crosswinds.
